Tips (Trotters Independent Publishing Services Ltd) have kindly given us permission to publish
these test results The following are the comments on the bras tested 1. Comfort nursing bra (Emma-Jane b/f sports bra) from www.babiesrus.co.uk
This bra is excellent value for money. It is simple and easy to use, allowing total freedom during breastfeeding. The advice online is excellent and there are breastfeeding help-line details on all packaging. The quality of cotton is finer since my last test making this my ‘Best Budget Buy’ for nursing bras.
1. Marks & Spencer 2-pack of Nursing Bras from www.marksandspencer.com
Excellent design and great value for money. 100% ultra soft cotton. Good advice is available in store and online plus a free fitting service. My only concern is that it may not be the most supportive bra.
2. Anna Cecilia range from www.cheekyrascals.com
This is my top tip for the next ‘must-have’ nursing bra.
The Swedish Company has spent more than two years researching the best fabric and the best design,
with the help of midwives, mothers and lactation consultants. The end result is a beautifully soft
and breathable product with great design features and a one-handed zipper for easy opening.
I have to say I was very sceptical, having discounted the use of inner linings before.
This inner lining is soft and flexible enough to avoid any restriction and removes the possibility of the zipper pinching during use. This is backed up by an excellent website www.annacecilia.co.uk to answer all your queries. The range also includes boxer briefs, swimwear, nightwear and breastfeeding tops. 2. Anita seam free nursing bra from www.bloomingmarvellous.co.uk
A great all rounder. This design is incredibly comfortable to wear and made from breathable microfibre. Breastpads would fit well inside the cups and because of the ‘air cushion’ fabric they would not be visible. My only concern is the high attachment of the drop down cup which could cause restrictions when feeding. However, there is a wide selection of different designs in the Anita range and they are all of very high quality. I am sure there would be a bra to suit all shapes and requirements. 2. Emma-Jane seam free nursing bra from New Addition, Ayr (01292885700).
This is an excellent addition to the Emma-Jane range which is renowned for its simple and user-friendly designs. The new microfibre fabric is breathable and extremely comfortable. This bra is great value for money and comes in a wide range of sizes. My only concern is that the fabric of the inner cup is inflexible and could cause restriction during feeding. 2. Mothercare 2-pack of Nursing Bras from www.mothercare.com
Excellent design and great value for money. Wide range of sizes. Easy to use and it is extremely comfortable. Excellent information is available in stores and online. Once again, my only concern is that it may not be the most supportive bra.
3. Ballet Celebration Maternity Nursing Bra from www.figleaves.com
This looks great and comes with the choice of matching briefs or thong. It is easy to use and despite the inner cups, it is very stretchy and comfortable to wear. There is a wide range of sizes and it is very supportive. The stretchy lace trim is not only attractive but extremely flexible making it unlikely to cause restriction.
4. Elle Macpherson Maternelle from www.expressyourselfmums.co.uk
This is a lovely bra, which looks great, comes in a variety of colours and matching sets. The reason it looses some points is the price, the handwash instructions and the lack of information included. The inner cups, although incredibly soft, do pose a potential risk of restriction whilst feeding. It is perfect for the smaller busted woman and well worth a look.
4. NCT Comfort from www.nctms.co.uk
This design remains the NCTs best selling nursing bra and is available in a wide range of sizes. It gives great support especially for larger breast sizes. The website contains excellent information and a free fitting service is offered by over 150 NCT bra fitting volunteer agents throughout the UK (telephone 0870 112 1120). Postage & packing is free and you can return unworn bras again and again until you are satisfied you have the correct size & fit. 5. Bravado maternity and nursing bra from www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk
Fashionable design which is easy to use and looks great! Lots of lovely fabric designs to choose from. The press studs can be a bit fiddly and getting it on and off could be awkward if you have tender engorged breasts (try stepping into the bra!). Overall though, this is another good choice. Available in ‘Basic’, ‘Plus’ and ‘Double-plus'. 5. Elle Macpherson La Mere from www.bloomingmarvellous.co.uk
This is a gorgeous design that would be ideal for a special occasion. The reason it looses some points is the price, the hand wash instructions and the potential for irritation from the lace trim. The inner cups, although incredibly stretchy, do pose a potential risk of restriction whilst feeding. It is perfect for the smaller busted woman and well worth a look. Breast pads would fit neatly and not show through.
5. NCT Ivory from www.nctms.co.uk
Good all rounder. Fabric is soft and the set looks good with the matching briefs. The website contains excellent information and a free fitting service is offered by over 150 NCT bra fitting volunteer agents throughout the UK (telephone 0870 112 1120). Postage & packing is free and you can return unworn bras again and again until you are satisfied you have the correct size & fit.
6. Emily B black lace nursing bra from www.bloomingmarvellous.co.uk
This bra looks pretty, especially with the matching pants. However, it is let down by the price and the inflexible material which has the potential to cause restriction. Breast pads would also show through. However once your breasts have settled in size and breastfeeding is established this would be an ideal design for special occasions.
