Firstly, thanks to all of you who took the time to complete the Travelling with Children Questionnaire that we ran on the site last month.
We had an excellent response, over 360 completed Questionnaires.
There were some interesting findings:
Overall, while there may be problems regarding political integration most of us prefer to take a European holiday with small children rather than head across the Atlantic.
France and Spain were the most popular destinations across all age ranges. France was slightly more popular than Spain for those parents with children under 1-70% selecting France as a preferred option versus 56% who chose Spain. However, as children get older Spain takes over as the Number one choice for young families, narrowly beating France to the top position.
Particularly for parents of very young children, the most important factor in determining where to go abroad was standard of accommodation, over 70% of respondents with children under 6 months old highlighted this as the most important factor when considering a foreign destination. Other important factors were, general levels of hygiene and the ease of travel to a particular foreign destination.
Also, one thing is certain we are taking our kids abroad far earlier than our parents took us. Only 20% of parents had been abroad by the time they were 5 while in our survey, over 55% of children had been abroad by the time they were 2.
Thanks again to all who took part in the survey.
