Jakers! brings the spirit and warmth of Grandparent’s Day alive on Saturday, 24th September 2005

We are delighted that so many grandparents visit forparentsbyparents and by launching your own section of the site we hope that grandparents will feel more included in the site and feel a sense of ownership. It will be great to get even more feedback from grandparents and see this section grow and grow.

Being a grandparent is such a vital role. Many families simply couldn't function without grandparent support, yet so often this role is undervalued.

Also, modern life throws up lots of challenges for grandparents: whether it's dealing with new step grandchildren, keeping in touch with grandchildren who have moved away through job relocation or family break-up or keeping up to date with the latest trends in music and childcare.

You can find information and advice about:

You can also see the results of our Grandparent(s) of the Year Award.

Anyway, we really hope you enjoy this section. If you have your own views to share, please do so by emailing the site at feedback@forparentsbyparents.co.uk.

TOP TIPS FOR THE GRANDEST OF PARENTS

Jakers! brings the spirit and warmth of Grandparent’s Day alive on Saturday, 24th September 2005

Take a leaf out of Grandpa Piggley’s storybook and celebrate Grandparent’s Day in the best way possible this year with Entara’s enchanting animated series Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks, for 3-6 year olds, on BBC2.

By celebrating the art of storytelling and the joy of childhood adventures, Jakers! demonstrates the importance of encouraging children to learn from their own experiences as well as those of others, especially Grandparents. As Jakers! series star, Grandpa Piggley, regales his contemporary, city-dwelling grandpigs with stories from his childhood spent on Raloo Farm in 1950s Ireland, he strengthens the bond between generations and gently imparts important life lessons along the way.

Keeping youngsters entertained is no mean feat, so to help you become an even better grandparent, Jakers! has 10 top tips to help you along the way. So, don’t be surprised when, as a result, on Grandparent’s Day you get spoiled rotten for being just the best grandparent in the world!

Daniel Isman, the Managing Director of Entara says, “One of the core themes of Jakers! is that it celebrates grandparents and the relationship with their grandchildren. We want to highlight Grandparent’s Day because it reflects the nature of Jakers! - to show the joy that intergenerational bonding can bring to families, and the important role that grandparents play in a child’s life”.

Borne out of the need to encourage contact between the generations, Grandparent’s Day like the Jakers! series is a wonderful tribute to grandparents and a great way to discover what an inspiring source of knowledge they can be.

About Jakers!

Jakers! is a unique concept, combining traditional values, state of the art animation and humour. This Emmy award winning series follows the adventures of Piggley Winks™, a young pig and his friends Dannan the Duck and Ferny the Bull in 1950’s rural Ireland. Going back to traditional roots, celebrating the gift of storytelling and the joy of childhood adventures, it also demonstrates the importance of letting children learn from their own experiences.
