Your new role

The birth of your first baby brings so many changes to your life. One of the major is your new role as a dad. Men adapt into this new role in many ways but it is not always easy.

If you'd like to share your own experiences please email contributions@forparentsbyparents.co.uk.

"It was quite a shock realising that I was now responsible for a child. Before our son arrived we both worked and bought in similar money. Then, overnight I seemed responsible for the whole thing. I quite like the idea now, but to start with it was scary."
"I don't think I really thought through what a change having kids would make to us. Not sure anyone does, but I certainly didn't. It changes everything! Small things like having a lie-in on Saturday after a hard week's work, out of the window with a toddler jumping on you at 7.00am. Spending money, forget it! Still, I adore her.
"It is not only that your life changes, you change as well. I am really fearful about something happening to my child. I used to be so blasé about everything really, but I can't bear to see things about child abductions/child abuse on the TV. It really bothers me and I think about it long after hearing about it."
