Medela decided to sponsor the new research which has lead to new findings about the breast anatomy and below we focus on how this can affect breastfeeding, surgery and milk production.

	This is the currently accepted model of the breast which is over 160 years old! Based on wax casts and dissections, it was injected with coloured wax. It is misleading as it shows the ducts at the nipple to be larger than they are and it was thought that they stored milk - which they don't.
	The findings of the new research, done by using sophisticated ultrasound technology, has challenged a number of commonly accepted practises.
