This hilarious and heart-warming magical tale will appeal to both children and adults alike, making it the ideal film for the family to enjoy together during the spring half term break. Nanny McPhee sees the recently widowed Mr Brown (Colin Firth) struggling to control his brood of wonderful, yet mischievous, children. Without a mother figure, his seven naughty siblings are so out of control they have scared away a total of seventeen nannies with their unruly behaviour.
Just when Mr Brown thinks he has no options left, a mysterious ad appears in the local newspaper and before he knows it, the magical Nanny McPhee arrives on his doorstep. Mr Brown is alarmed by her startling and comically ugly appearance, but has no time to argue as this no nonsense Nanny swoops into the household and takes control of the Brown children. Nanny McPhee quickly sees the Brown children have the run of the house and, with the use of her magical walking stick, begins to bring the house in line with a BANG! She has five important lessons to teach them before they are left to their father, and in the days that follow, they find that any mischief they get up to will be used against them with hilarious consequences. As the children begin to discover Nanny McPhee’s magical powers they quickly learn she is no ordinary Nanny. Trouble brews in the Brown household when the children discover their father is planning to remarry to appease their wicked Aunt Adelaide (Angela Lansbury). They decide to step up the mischief to ensure any potential step mothers are warned off, much to the exasperation of the beautiful scullery maid Evangeline (Kelly McDonald) and cook, Mrs Blatherwick (Imelda Staunton). Throughout this magical tale, the children learn as much about themselves as they learn from Nanny McPhee as they try and keep their family together. As the children’s behaviour improves, so does the unusual appearance of their new nanny, bringing into question this mysterious stranger the family have come to love. Move over Mary Poppins, there’s a new Nanny in town and there’ll be no spoonfuls of sugar, just a double helping of fun and mayhem as this box office smash comes to your home in February 2006…the DVD you need is Nanny McPhee!
