New Multicultural TV Show Will Help Improve Pre-schoolers Cultural Awareness and Language Skills

Tune in to Disney’s Handy Manny on Playhouse Disney!

Handy Manny, a new TV series, will help young children gain an understanding of different cultures as well as learn some basic Spanish language skills. Handy Manny appears on Playhouse Disney each Saturday and Sunday at 9.25am and follows the life of Manny, a helpful Hispanic-American who can fix anything! Manny enlists the help of his eclectic set of talking tools who together assist him to repair anything broken - while speaking words to neighbours and friends in Spanish, then again in English.

Eileen Hayes, parenting author and expert comments: Research has shown that the younger the child, the easier the acquisition of a second or third language. This is why programmes such as Handy Manny are so important for children to watch at a young age. It can help with their development and make it easier for them to learn when they get to school.

Disney believes that Handy Manny supports Government plans to extend foreign language in English schools as part of their Modern Foreign Languages Strategy. This aims to ensure that every child aged seven to 11 learns one or more languages at school by 2010. Education Secretary, Ruth Kelly, said: Languages are vital for children in today’s world. They open doors to new experiences, increase employment opportunities and break down cultural barriers. They also boost community cohesion and our economy’s competitiveness*.

It is estimated that at least 38 known languages are spoken throughout Great Britain and the number of different cultures and languages are rapidly growing.

Only individuals who are registered or register with the site before 31st October 2006 will be eligible to enter the prize draw.

Open to UK Residents only

Only persons over the age of 18 years old are eligible to enter this competition. Only one entry per person is permitted.

There is no cash alternative.

The judge's decision is final.

We reserve the right to display the names of prize winners on the site. No other personal identifiers will be used. Anyone who does not want their name to be displayed should email the site once they have registered or submitted an entry request.

Prizes will be held for 2 weeks from the notification date above. If a prize is not claimed within this time it will be forfeit and a draw will be made to select a winner.
