The research we are doing is for the greater good, allowing us to gain some understanding of language development. We are interested in recruiting more babies and young children in order to help us build on the body of research that currently exists in this area. For instance, we are investigating how children acquire a particular accent in English, or how they learn new words. For more information, or to sign up to the project, please visit www.plymouthbabylab.org Parents' visit to the Babylab lasts no more than an hour, we cover their travel expenses (up to £3), provide coffee, tea and biscuits and, we hope, an enjoyable moment. Children leave with a Baby Scientist Certificate. Posted on 16th January 2008 Were you struggling to afford childcare?Have working or child tax credits helped with the cost of childcare? Posted on 19th December 2007 What does Mum Rage mean to you?Independent documentary maker and mother of two is looking for other mothers who at times experience frightening feelings of rage towards their children for an ITV documentary that explores this taboo. This is not post natal depression but rather overwhelming feelings of anger that boil up and surface as rage (not necessarily physical but verbal) towards your kids and then disappear. If you are a loving mother but experience these frightening feelings and are frustrated that no-one talks openly about mum rage then please get in touch via email Julia@bivtv.co.uk. I will be looking at sustainable ways to deal with this rage through a parenting coach so that there is some positive way forward for the mothers in the film. Posted on 6th December 2007 Tommy's ResearchIn 2008 Tommy's, the baby charity, will be opening a brand new research centre based in Edinburgh, which will be conducting research into the causes and prevention of miscarriage, premature birth and stillbirth. In order to raises awareness of the importance of the work Tommy's does, the charity is looking for women based in Scotland, who have experienced pregnancy complications, and would be happy to have their stories told in the Scottish press. It is hoped that by bringing attention to the realities of pregnancy complications and the impact is had on thousands of families each year, that members of the public will donate money to help fund the vital research set to take place at the centre.
