UK Holiday guide

One of our aims is to offer parents a guide to some of the best family holidays.

Top Tip: Do not forget to prepare your camera for the event. Here are some great photography tips.

Initially, we have decided to focus on holidays in UK that would suit families with children under five. This type of holiday has worked best for us and we feel that there are many great family locations in UK. Many however are less well advertised and hence harder to find. We hope to change this!

Before we launch into actual locations here are two things to bear in mind:

  • pick your time of year with care. This might seem obvious but it's still worth thinking about. Not only will the likely weather vary but also number of local attractions that will be open;

  • if you know another family and like to spend lots of time with them, consider taking them on holiday with you. You'll hopefully get more of a break as you can share childminding and the children will have more distractions because they are with each other. It's probably best to get separate living accommodation so everyone has some space, but this is not essential.

Our Selection Criteria

We have selected a range of holidays that try to accommodate most purses. We do not feature traditional holiday parks as these can be easily found in holiday brochures, but we have tried to pick a range of self catering accommodation and hotels that cater well for small children.

Please let us know what your experiences are so we can highlight the good and warn about the bad! Send them to feedback@forparentsbyparents.com

We have selected properties against a number of key criteria that we feel make a dramatic difference to the quality of holiday for ALL the family.

Must haves:

  • a swimming pool, generally indoor, but if outdoor then it's heated;
  • a play area suitable for younger children. Some properties have both indoor and outdoor play areas;
  • a beach - most are within four miles of a beach. If not they are set in areas of outstanding natural beauty with 'water' nearby, e.g. The Lakes, Rutland Water and River Spey;
  • they are set in areas of the country recognised as 'holiday destinations' so giving you maximum number of holiday options if the weather is unpredictable.

Nice to haves:

  • childrens' meals on site. This may mean a snack bar where children and adults can eat together or a separate childrens' dining area;
  • childcare facilities - these range from 'kids clubs' for toddlers to baby listening services.

Pricing - We have selected accommodation ranging from good to excellent in quality. We've mainly featured self catering accommodation as this gives maximum flexibility and often there will be a range of accommodation within a given location which varies in price. Some hotels featured are expensive, but bear in mind that their prices often include all meals.

Have we tried them all? - NO - what we have done is select quality accommodation against set criteria. We will of course monitor ALL reports of these establishments and will feature all positive and negative feedback we receive about any facility featured.

Don't Forget! Do not forget to prepare your camera for the event. Here are some great photography tips.
