Eco-nappies

When my son was born six years ago the choice of washable nappies was very limited. The thought of folding, pinning and the bulkiness of Terries did not appeal, never mind the washing. I have to admit that I used disposables!

Six years on parents are faced with a much different choice. The choice and availability of washable nappies is almost mind blowing. Washable nappies are now not only an excellent choice for environmental, financial and health reasons but they are also designed to be easy to use.

Through this page we hope to do our bit to increase awareness of the availability of eco-nappies and so give parents a much wider choice of nappies.

What you think!

We use washable nappies with our daughter - they are fantastic!! They are easy to use, don't leak and don't give her nappy rash! We use tots bots nappies with motherease wraps! Our local council also gives a small cash back to help with the inital costs of buying the nappies - overall it is a simple, environmentally friendly and cost effective! We would recommend it!!

Hi,I just love cotton nappies. I used a mixture of tots bots and prefolds. Mostly Motherease wraps, and Modernbaby wraps for prefolds.

I only realised how great cotton nappies were when I had to use Pampers one day at a friends and little Sianna got nappy rash that night. It took 2 days to clear, but looked better and better every time I put a fresh cotton nappy on her bum. Go Cotton! It's worth it!

I have used terry nappies on all three of my children. Even with my eldest I used them from about 10days, despite the fact I had had an emergancy C-section. I had always planned on using them to avoid the land-fill issues with disposables. I find them easy, they dry quickly, and the only times my children have ever had nappy rash is when we have been away and had to use didposables for a few days. Every time they came up in rash within 24 hours. I firmly believe this was due to the chemicals used to absorb the wetness. Also potty training was easy as they knew when they were wet. I find it quite amazing that there are now disposable nappies sold that make the child realise they are wet! Iwould reccommend washable nappies to anyone, they are so much kinder to your baby's skin and to the planet.

I have just had my 5th baby and I had always used disposable until one day I tried a re-usable nappy and realised they are no different to disposable except in the long run they cost a lot less although there is a lot more envolved with re-usable with washing and the such like, the only problem I found was trying to choose which type to use and then discovering not many shops by us actually sell these nappies, I think there should be more done to encourage people to turn to re-usables, more shops should be encouraged to sell them and the choice should be made more apparent when a mum is expecting.

I use reuseables. They are great. I actually find they leak less than disposables. Sometimes trousers get a bit tight around his hips towards the end their age range as they have to fit around the nappy, but since I tend to dress him in clothes as soon as they are close enough to his size that they don't actually fall off - in order to get value for money! - this isn't really a problem.

I bought all my nappies and wraps second hand off websites such as nappylady.co.uk and only spent about £200 on enough nappies to last from birth to 35lbs.

For the first 2 or 3 weeks while I was getting used to handling a baby, I did use disposables as they felt simpler to put on, but now I can change his cloth nappies with my eyes closed!

When I found out I was pregnant with my first child I was determined to find out about and use cloth nappies. After much searching on line I chose terry squares and nature baby wraps to use on my little boy. He is now nearly 1 year old and I love using my REAL NAPPIES.

After having my little boy I wanted to help raise awareness, in my area of Cloth Nappies, so I became a Lollipop Cloth Nappy Agent. I advise parents on the different types of nappy available to them and help them make an informed choice as to which cloth systme will suit their budget and lifestyle. In the a couple of weeks I will be launching my own website which I hope will help parents to make an informed decision about using cloth nappies on their babies.

Most peple think cloth is hard work, it isn`t. It saves you money, is environmentally concious and cloth bottoms are the cutest thing around.
